About My Art

Philosophy: I create oil pastel drawings to explore beautiful combinations of colors and shapes, and make visible some things not of this earth. I start each pastel with a simple desire to see a certain color or color combination on the page. At each point in its development, I ask my inner mind what would look “right” with what I have already drawn.

Media: Oil pastels.

Style: My art is evocative. The colors and shapes are bold and definite. My pastels run from the completely abstract to accidental representations of otherworldly beings and phenomena. The colorful creatures I depict seem to fly, float, spurt, and roll about the page. I don’t know where they come from.

Background: I am a conservatory-trained, master’s level musician, and also have a master’s degree in engineering. Both required rigorous and analytical training. For me, creating pastels comes from a completely different place than my other endeavors. It is a part of me that would otherwise have no voice. I started out with crayons more than 20 years ago, then soon fell in love with pastels.
